Human Rights Education

Human Rights are the foundation for freedom, justice and peace in the world.

What are Human Rights?

Simply by virtue of being human, everyone is entitled to some fundamental rights. These are referred to as "human rights" rather than "privileges" (which can be revoked at any time).

They are "rights" in the sense that they are things you are permitted to be, do, or possess. These rights are in place to protect you against persons who may wish to injure or hurt you. They are also there to assist us in getting along with one another and living in harmony.

There are 30 Human Rights that belong to every person in the world, from birth until death. They apply regardless of where you are from, what you believe or how you choose to live your life.

The History

Why Human Rights Education?

The Road to Rights believes in bringing youth and communities together to ensure peace and development as its objectives include innovation and creativity as integral components in engaging people to educate them on their rights and responsibilities and sustainable development.

Human rights education is a way of empowering people to develop skills and behaviours that promote dignity and equality in the community, society, and around the world. Through the fruits of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding, it contributes to and enriches human dignity.

Mere charity is not enough from a human rights perspective. Under a human rights-based approach and education, the plans, policies and processes of development are anchored in a system of rights and corresponding obligations established by international law. This helps to promote the sustainability of development work, empowering people themselves— especially the most marginalized—to participate in policy formulation and hold accountable those who have a duty to act.

"Human rights education is much more than a lesson in schools or a theme for a day; it is a process to equip people with the tools they need to live lives of security and dignity ... let us continue to work together to develop and nurture in future generations a culture of human rights, to promote freedom, security and peace in all nations”

Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Prize winner

Good Choices Program

Every parent wants their child to be happy, but how do you achieve that? Certainly making sure the child gets a good education is part of it, but what about life itself? How do you prepare them for that?

Good Choices is dedicated to empowering kids of all ages by teaching them how to make their own good decisions in life. We use a booklet called ‘’How to Make Good Choices’’, which contains twenty-one common sense moral guidelines for living an ethical and productive life and demonstrates how this leads to personal happiness. Through this effective experiential learning program we look forward to teach the children and young people on how to make better choices in their day to day life to have a better future.
